Typologies of Silence is a set of social situations where the discourse has been submerged as if there is something that needs to remain hidden. The narratives explore the path between fact and fiction in order to obtain status. In Hallberg's work this leakage is explored upon as she brings forward and critiques the fragile state of the subject, intertwined with contemporary contingencies touching up on geopolitics, remembrance, and status within society.
Series include BETWEEN THE TWO OF US, OUTPOST, RECURSIVE DISTANCE and MEMORY.

The series Outpost (Swe: Utpost) is set on the boundaries of private and public and explores how this divide connotes migration and addresses an immanent discourses of xenophobia and nationalism. It is a continuation of investigations of contested territories/spheres between public and private, narrative and documentary, the watcher and the watched Hallberg has worked with for more than a decade.
The first sequence Typologies of Silence - Outpost, is a series of six works (7 photographs) of sites in Oakland (US, 2009), Tver (Russia, 2013) and Stockholm (Sweden, 2014). They are sites of displacement due to dominant structural ideas in the society. The outposts have all been shelters for people seeking refuge. Tver represents political escape, Stockholm the result of governmental eviction of EU-immigrants and Oakland represents a site where an older man lived for a number of months but one day he was not there any longer just the writing on the sidewalk.
