In the exhibition Världar och verkligheter – Dokumentära strategier i samtiden, Groupshow at two institutions. At Länsmuseet Gävleborg the focus is set on documentary photography from the 1970s and at the Kunsthalle the focus is on contemporary documentary strategies with work by Johannes Samuelsson, Kerstin Hamilton, Lars Wallsten, Annica Karlsson-Rixon och Anna Viola Hallberg.

State of Mind in Mind and Memory  at Worth Ryder Art Gallery UC Berkeley Department of Art Practice, Californa, US.

September 28-October 22, 2011  In Mind and Memory presents two research-based artistic collaborations. Using multiple-channel video and still photographs, these two pairs of artists respond in their works to experiences of being marginalized in a globally-connected world. Autobiographical inquiry takes on abstracted, poetic form in Baghdadi Mem/Wars (2010) by Dena al-Adeeb and Sama Alshaibi, which references the artists’ personal and family histories of war and migration from Iraq to the United States.

State of Mind (2008) by Annica Karlsson Rixon and Anna Viola Hallberg, is a documentary-based body of work about LGBTQ communities in St. Petersburg, Russia, in which first-person narratives are presented simultaneously in an installation alongside family portrait photos of their subjects. In both bodies of work, identity is complicated by other realities, necessitating a camouflage approach to social constructs. In this condition, the self retains autonomy only within the mind’s interior.

MAKE OUT! is a group exhibition with internationally active artists, activists and filmmakers, who in one way or another belong to the Queer Community. Our vision for the show MAKE OUT! has been that we, the homobitransqueerdyke artists, who either work from a glbtq-perspective or not, will get the possibility to exchange experiences and present our artistic work and activities to each other and an audience. As participants in the exhibition, we will take over the space in many different ways. It will be a space for informal meetings and also be used as an open exhibition space. Through the exhibition MAKE OUT! we want to offer a platform for reflections about art, life and society, with heteronormality and taboos as a starting point
